Weekend Sweep of Whalers, Peoria & Top Prospects Tournament

This past weekend, the Chill played three games total. Thursday, Feb. 14th was at home against the Wisconsin Whalers and Friday & Saturday were on the road in Peoria, IL against the Peoria Mustangs.

Thursday night, the Chill took on the Wisconsin Whalers on home ice. The Chill are able to get on the board first with a goal from Sam Dabrowski early on (3:50; Thomas Magnavite, Brady Lindauer). Matt Janke gets on the board next to make it 2-0 in the first (7:36; Gadel Khismatullin, Christopher Drews). The Chill hold the 2-0 lead at the first intermission. The second period begins, and the Whalers add a goal to make it 2-1 early but the Chill answer back just 15 seconds later to bring their lead back up to two with another goal from Matt Janke (2:29; Connor Losen, Toon De Schepper). Near the end of the second period, Thomas Magnavite makes it 4-1 on the power play with assists from Toon De Schepper and Flavien Fondadouze. That will be the score heading into the second intermission. The third period begins and the Chill once again are able to get on the board early in the period, this time a goal from Flavien Fondadouze (1:24; Gadel Khismatullin, Matt Janke) to make it 5-1. 16 seconds later, Aslan Akervik makes it 6-1 with help from Marco Escobar and Sam Dabrowski. The Whalers add one more goal on a power play to make it 6-2 but they can’t catch up with the Chill’s red hot offense. Goalie Gunnar Snyder gets the win in net, stopping 35 of the 37 shots he faced.

Friday night, the Chill were on the road to Peoria, IL to take on the Mustangs in a two game weekend series. The Mustangs are the first to get on the board early in the first period. Then the Chill are able to tie it up 1-1 with a goal by Flavien Fondadouze (9:53; Connor Losen, Toon De Schepper). The Chill then take the lead 2-1 with a goal from Toon De Schepper at 13:51 of the first period on the power play (Thomas Magnavite, Sam Dabrowski). The Chill hold the 2-1 lead heading to the locker room for the first intermission. The second period gives the Chill another goal, this time by Thomas Magnavite (8:07; Brandon Ratzloff, Sam Dabrowski) to make it 3-1. The Whalers get one late in the second to make it 3-2 but the Chill are able to hold them off to end the second period. The third period would result in no scoring for either team, which gave the Chill a close 3-2 victory over Peoria. Goalie Devin Naidow gets the win in net, stopping 27 of the 29 shots he faced.

 

Saturday night, it took the Chill until the midway mark of the first period to get on the board, Brady Lindauer would get the goal with help from Thomas Magnavite. The two teams would head into the first intermission with the Chill holding on to the 1-0 lead. The Chill and the Mustangs battle back and forth during the second period with no scoring until Brady Lindauer is able to get his second of the game just a minute left in the second period to make it 2-0 (Chase McLaughlin, Toon De Schepper). The third period would see an early goal from Christopher Drews (3:26; Gadel Khismatullin, Connor Losen) to make it 3-0 Chill. At 12:47 of the final period, Brady Lindauer would complete his hat trick with help from Toon De Schepper and Matt Janke to give the Chill a 4-0 victory and a sweep of the weekend. Goalie Devin Naidow gets the win in net, stopping all 18 shots faced to give him the shutout.

Coach Jon Vaillancourt and four of the Chill players were also selected to take part in the NA3HL Top Prospects tournament in Attleboro, MA on February 18th & 19th. Forwards Brandon Ratzloff and Matt Janke & defensemen Toon De Schepper and Connor Losen were selected to be a part of the Central Division team. Coach Jon was selected as one of two coaches of the Central Division team. The Central Division ended up sweeping the tournament, winning all three games played. They beat the Coastal Division 5-3 early Monday morning, Brandon Ratzloff (2), Toon De Schepper, and Matt Janke all had assists in the win. They then beat the West Division team later Monday evening 5-2, Brandon Ratzloff had a goal and an assist, Matt Janke had an assist in the win. Their final game was Tuesday morning, and they would get a 6-4 win over the Frontier Division team. Matt Janke had a goal and Brandon Ratzloff had an assist in the win. The Central Division team was the only team in the tournament to win all 3 games.

 

Coming up, the Chill will be on the road on Friday the 22nd to take on the Milwaukee Power at 7:30 PM and then will be back at home on Saturday the 23rd to faceoff against the Wausau RiverWolves.
