This past weekend the Coulee Region Chill swept the New Ulm Steel in a home and home series.
On Friday, October 18th the Chill traveled to New Ulm to take on the Steel in their first meeting of the weekend. During the first period, Jacob Best was the first to find the back of the net with assists coming from Gadel Khismatullin and Parker Severson. The Chill were unable to score in the second with only one goal coming from New Ulm. After two periods the Chill and Steel were tied at 1-1. New Ulm was able to find some momentum early in the third period as they came out and scored 37 seconds into the period. That momentum was short lived, though, as the Chill were able to score back-to back goals later in the period. The two goals came from Christopher Gilbert and Parker Severson. Also contributing to those goals were Gijs De Schepper, Jacob Best, and Gadel Khismatullin. New Ulm found their way back into the game late in the third period to tie it up at 3 goals a piece. With a scoreless overtime, the Chill found themselves in a shootout. Both Gadel Khismatullin and Flavien Fondadouze were able to find the back of the net in the shootout to secure the victory as Michael Janke stopped two of the three attempts that came from New Ulm. Michael Janke was in net for the Chill as he stopped 39 of 42 shots.
On Saturday, October 19th the Chill hosted the New Ulm Steel at Green Island Ice Arena. During the 1st period only New Ulm found themselves on the scoresheet. Into the second period, the Chill were able to tie the game up with two goals and only one goal from New Ulm. Marco Escobar and Jacob Best were the 2nd period goal scorers for the Chill with assists coming from Branwen Pollett, Parker Severson, Gadel Khismatullin and Jefferson Coffin. Into the third period, New Ulm was able to strike first to take a 3-2 lead. Later on in the third, the Chill found the back of the net twice on the power-play to secure the home victory. The final two goals came from Jacob Best and Gadel Khismatullin with assists coming from Gadel Khismatullin, Flavien Fondadouze, Jacob Best, and Branwen Pollet. Devin Naidow was in net for the Chill and was able to save 31 of the 34 shots he faced.
