Weekend Recap – Nov. 15-17

This past weekend the Coulee Region Chill had a three game home stand where they were able to come away with four points. With those two wins, the Chill now find themselves in second place in the Central Division standings only behind the St. Louis Jr. Blues. 

On Friday, November 15th the Alexandria Blizzard came to town for the Chill’s first game of the weekend. Coming out strong was the Blizzard as they were first to find the back of the net only two minutes into the game. A quick answer, though, from Marco Escobar would tie the game up at one a piece. The assist on Escobar’s goal came from Gijs De Schepper. Later in the period, the Chill would take a one goal lead with a goal from Flavien Fondadouze with assists coming from Parker Severson and Marco Escobar. Shortly after, Alexandria would tie the game back up. After one period of play, the offense shut off for both teams. With no scoring in the second or third period, this game would head to OT at two goals a piece. At the 3:43 mark into OT Jacob Best scored the game-winner for the Chill with assists coming from Parker Severson and Flavien Fondadouze. In net for the Chill was Michael Janke. Janke was able to help the Chill pull off the OT win while stopping 29 of the 31 shots he faced on the night. 

On Saturday, November 16th the Chill would again host the Alexandria Blizzard for their second game of the weekend. During the first period the Chill were unable to find the back of the net while Alexandria netted two goals to start off the game. Alexandria would then open up the second period with another goal to take a three goal lead. Later in the second, Marco Escobar was able to cut Alexandria’s lead by finding the back of the net with assists from Liam Farrell and Gijs De Schepper. Christopher Gilbert would also cut into Alexandria’s lead with the Chill’s second goal of the night with an assist from Joey Wiczek. Alexandria would score their fourth goal of the night in the last minute of the second period. Alexandria would have a 4-2 lead going into the third period. Marco Escobar was able to score his second goal of the night late in the third to cut the lead to only one goal with assists coming from Jacob Best and Sam VanderHoeven. The Chill would fall to Alexandria by a score of 4-3. In net for the Chill was Devin Naidow. Naidow was able to stop 32 of the 36 shots he faced on the night. 

On Sunday, November 17th the Milwaukee Power came to town for the Chill’s third and final game of the weekend. Starting off the first period, newcomer, Ethan McCormack was able to score two goals for the Chill. Assists on those goals came from Gijs De Schepper, Christopher Gilbert and Zach Cherry. Sam VanderHoeven would also find the back of the net for the Chill to extend their lead to three. Assists on VanderHoeven’s goal came from Jefferson Coffin and Gadel Khismatullin. Sam VanderHoeven would then open up the second period with his second goal of the day with assists from Parker Severson and Gadel Khismatullin. Milwaukee would then score back-to back goals to cut into the cut into the Chill’s lead. Branwen Pollett would take one back for the Chill with only three seconds remaining in the second period with assists from Flavien Fondadouze and Marco Escobar. Only one goal would come in the third period. That goal was scored by Jacob Best with assists coming from both Marco Escobar and Parker Severson. The Chill would close out the weekend with a 6-2 victory over the Milwaukee Power. In net for the Chill was Michael Janke. Janke was able to stop 29 of the 31 shots he faced. 

Up next for the Chill is another 3 game weekend with two at home and one on the road. Thursday, November 21st the Rochester Grizzlies come to town for a Central Division matchup. Puck drops at 7:00P.M. On Friday, November 22nd the Chill are then on the road to Wausau to take on the RiverWolves. Puck drops at 7:30P.M.
