Weekend Recap – March 6-7

This past weekend the Chill came up short in Alexandria during their final push of the regular season. The Chill fell twice to the Blizzard to secure the third seed in the Central Division by only one point behind the St. Louis Jr. Blues. 

On Friday, March 6th the Chill traveled to Alexandria for their final weekend series of the regular season. Alexandria came out flying as they scored the first two goals of the game. Sam VanderHoeven was the first to answer for the Chill with an unassisted goal. Alexandria would quickly answer with two more goals. To close out the first period, Ethan McCormack found the back of the net with assists from Jack Sumner and Dylan Dent. From here on out, the Chill were held silent. No team scored during the second period and only Alexandria tallied on the score sheet in the third period with five unanswered goals.  In net for the Chill was Michael Janke. Janke was able to stop 34 of the 43 shots he faced on the night. 

On Saturday, the Chill battled Alexandria in their final regular season game. Less than a minute into the game Marco Escobar struck first for the Chill with a power-play goal with assists from Gadel Khismatulin and Parker Severson. Alexandria would answer a few minutes later with a short-handed goal. To close out the first period, Brenden Fehlig tallied the Chill’s second goal of the game with an assist from Parker Severson. During the second period, Alexandria scored three unanswered goals. Early in the third period Parker Severson found the back of the net for the Chill’s third and final goal of the game with an assist from Sam VanderHoeven. Alexandria closed out the game with another three goals.  In net for the Chill was Devin Naidow. Naidow was able to stop 40 of the 47 shots he faced on the night. 

Up next, the Chill travel to St. Louis to take on the Jr. Blues in a best of three game series in the first round one of the Fraser Cup Playoffs. All games in the first round of playoffs will be held in St. Louis. Game one will be on Friday, March 13th at 7:00PM and game two will be held on Saturday, March 14th at 7:30PM.
