This past weekend the Chill completed the successful sweep on the Breezy Point North Stars at home. With these wins the Chill now sit in third place only one point behind the second place St. Louis Jr. Blues. The Chill also clinched their playoff spot for the postseason. With time and many games left in the regular season, the Chill still have the opportunity to climb in the standings.
On Friday, January 24th the Breezy Point North Stars came to town to start off the two-game series. Breezy Point struck first in this game taking the early lead. Later in the first, though, the Chill rallied with three unanswered goals to take the lead. The first Chill goal came from Gadel Khismatullin with assists from Gijs De Schepper and Brenden Fehlig. The second goal for the Chill was scored by Ethan McCormack with assists from Dylan Dent and Lucas Wieser. Parker Severson ended the first period with the Chill’s third goal with an assist from Marco Escobar. The Chill scored the lone goal that came in the second period to take a commanding 4-1 lead. That goal came from Dylan Dent with assists from Sam VanderHoeven and Brenden Fehlig. Twenty seconds into the third, Parker Severson added to the Chill’s lead with a goal with assists from Jacob Best and Marco Escobar. Halfway through the third period, Breezy Point found their second wind. The North Stars would go on to score three unanswered goals in the third to cut the Chill’s lead to one goal. Finally, Marco Escobar was able to ice the game for the Chill with an empty-net goal with an assist from Jacob Best. The Chill were able to hold on for a 6-4 victory. Starting in net for the Chill was Devin Naidow. Naidow stopped 9 of the 10 shots he faced on the night. Leo Lapata finished the game in net for the Chill while stopping 7 of the 10 shots he faced on the night.
With a win under their belt from the night before, the Chill looked to close out the sweep on Saturday, January 25th against the Breezy Point North Stars. This game would end in an entirely different fashion from the night before. The Chill scored four straight goals in the first period. They continued with their momentum into the second period with three more goals. They finished strong in this game with four more goals in the third to secure an 11-0 victory. A number of names hit the score sheet with goals. Parker Severson lead the team with four goals on the night. Other goals came from Brenden Fehlig, Sam VanderHoeven, Lucas Wieser, Jacob Best, Gadel Khismatullin, Joey Wiczek, and Jack Sumner. Many names also contributed to the score sheet with assists. The players that marked assists in this game were Gadel Khismatullin, Branwen Pollett, Jacob Best, Marco Escobar, Christopher Gilbert, Gijs De Schepper, and Dylan Dent. In net for the Chill was goalie, Michael Janke. Janke was able to help the Chill secure the victory with a 20 save shutout!
