Weekend Recap – Feb. 15

This past weekend, the Chill were able to pick up a win at home against the Rochester Grizzlies to further close the gap in the Central Division standings. After the win against Rochester, the Chill only sit one point behind the St. Louis Jr. Blues in the second place position with games in hand. 

On Saturday, February 15th the first place Rochester Grizzlies came to town for the lone game of the weekend for the Chill. Late in the first period, Rochester opened up the game with the first goal of the game to take a 1-0 lead after one period of play. Mid-way through the second period, the Chill were finally able to answer to tie the game up at 1 goal a piece. The Chill’s second period goal came from Marco Escobar assisted by Jacob Best. It wasn’t until mid-way through the third period that Rochester answered with their second goal to take a 2-1 lead with only half of a period remaining. With about four minutes left in regulation, the Chill were able to put together a power-play goal to stay alive. The game-tying goal came from Dylan Dent with assists from Marco Escobar and Sam VanderHoeven. After regulation, the two teams found themselves in a 2-2 tie. OT came and left quickly with no scoring from either team. This game would be decided by a shootout. In the shootout, Chill goalie, Devin Naidow, was able to stop all three of Rochester’s attempts. Gadel Khismatullin was the hero for the Chill in the shootout as he deeked his way to the back of the net for a Coulee Region Chill victory. Prior to a perfect performance in the shootout, goalie Devin Naidow played on his head during regulation as well as OT. In those four periods, he was able to stop 50 of the 52 shots he faced on the night to help the Chill secure a 3-2 victory.
