A new season of Coulee Region Chill hockey is upon us, and it all kicked off this past week at the NAHL Showcase.
The NAHL Showcase takes place at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, MN every year. It’s a place for teams across the league to kick off their season in front of hundreds of collegiate and professional scouts.
This year the Chill kicked things off with a 4-3 dramatic victory against the Odessa Jackalopes. Kevin Dineen scored late in the contest to put give new head coach Ryan Egan his first victory as a head coach in the NAHL. Veteran Joey Sofo and rookies Billy Duma and Braxton Collins also scored in the contest while Coulee Region’s first-round draft pick, Artur Pavliovkov, scored his first NAHL victory saving 23/26 shots in the contest.
The next two games were a struggle for the Chill. On Thursday afternoon the Chill paired up with a tough Topeka Roadrunners squad and on Friday night Coulee Region faced off against the Lone Star Brahmas, falling to both teams 7-3 and 6-2, respectively.
Coach Egan got the players rounded up for Saturday afternoon’s game against the Aberdeen Wings. Coulee Region scored first and the two teams went back and forth before Dineen scored his second game-winning goal of the showcase with under two minutes to play.
New Chill netminder Joe Marcouiller got the win for Coulee Region after saving an impressive 41/43 shots on the contest.
The Chill finished the weekend with a 2-2 record. They’ll head to Richfield, MN to take on the Minnesota Magicians in what’s now a in-division game for the two teams. Puck drops at 7:15pm Friday night and 7:05 Saturday night.
