This past weekend the Chill had a Home-and-Home against the Wausau RiverWolves. The two teams first played at Green Island Ice Arena on Thursday night. They took control of the game early on, with Brandon Ratzloff getting the Chill on the board first just 40 seconds into the first period with the assist from Connor Losen. Next up, Brock Zukowski gets on the board (2:26; Aslan Akervik) followed by Brady Lindauer (6:49; Chase McLaughlin, Gijs De Schepper). Brandon Ratzloff gets his second of the game at 7:41 of the first period with help from Brady Lindauer and Thomas Magnavite. 3 seconds later, Donny Schultz gets on the board with assists from Brock Zukowski and Toon De Schepper. Brady Lindauer gets his second goal of the game to make it 6-0 at 10:45 of the first period (Gadel Khismatullin, Thomas Magnavite). Wausau gets on the board at 11:43 of the period to make it 6-1, but a minute later Thomas Magnavite scores to make it 7-1 with assists from Toon De Schepper and Brady Lindauer. The RiverWolves add one more goal to make it 7-2 at the 16-minute mark, and that’s the score that both teams will head to the locker room to end the first period of play. Unfortunately for Wausau, that will be the last goal that they are able to score the rest of the night. The second period would see goals on the board for the Chill from Brady Lindauer (7:32; Brandon Ratzloff, Thomas Magnavite) on the power play, Thomas Magnavite (12:07; Brady Lindauer, Gadel Khismatullin), Keaton Caplis on the power play (12:54; Matt Janke, Donny Schultz), Keaton Caplis again at 15:49 of the second period (Brandon Ratzloff, Matt Janke), and Christopher Drews (17:30; Brady Lindauer, Thomas Magnavite). The Chill lead 12-2 going into the final period of play. The third-period goals for the Chill were from Donny Schultz (1:01; Brock Zukowski, Aslan Akervik), Brady Lindauer (2:23; Christopher Drews, Thomas Magnavite), Keaton Caplis (4:19; Joseph Wiczek, Christopher Drews), Brady Lindauer (9:05; Thomas Magnavite, Chase McLaughlin), and rounding out the scoring was Aslan Akervik at 18:20 of the third period with assists from Brock Zukowski and Donny Schultz. Final score is 17-2 and gives the Chill the victory at home. Goalie Devin Naidow gets the win in net at home, stopping 20 of 22 shots faced.
The next day, the Chill were on the road to Wausau to take on the RiverWolves again. The game was very similar to the previous night, scoring starting off for the Chill just 2:10 into the first period with a goal from Matt Janke (Brady Lindauer, Thomas Magnavite). Christopher Drews scores shortly after, with assists from Toon De Schepper and Joseph Wiczek. Newcomer Boone Mathison, who was called up by the Chill for Friday’s game, gets his first goal with the Chill at 7:40 of the first period with help from Christopher Drews. Aslan Akervik gets on the board short-handed at 11:19 (Flavien Fondadouze, Thomas Magnavite) and Thomas Magnavite makes it 5-0 to end the first period (17:12; Brady Lindauer, Gadel Khismatullin). During the second period, Gadel Khismatullin gets on the board at 5:44 with an assist from Donny Schultz. Flavien Fondadouze scores next (11:10; Brandon Ratzloff, Matt Janke), followed by Brady Lindauer (15:39; Keaton Caplis, Judson McGrath) and Brock Zukowski (17:04; Aslan Akervik, Donny Schultz). The Chill lead 9-0 going into the final period of play. Christopher Drews scores less than a minute into the third period to make it 10-0 (Brady Lindauer, Toon De Schepper). Brady Lindauer adds a short-handed goal at 2:19 of the third with assists from Toon De Schepper and Thomas Magnavite. Aslan Akervik gets on the board again (18:41; Donny Schultz, Brock Zukowski) and Brock Zukowski scores not long after to round out the game (Donny Schultz, Aslan Akervik). The Chill get the road victory over the Wausau RiverWolves with a score of 13-0. Goalie Gunnar Snyder gets the win and his 5th shutout of the season in net, stopping all 20 shots he faced.
Coming up, the Chill will have a 3-game homestand this weekend, February 1st-3rd. Friday’s game will be against the Milwaukee Power, Saturday & Sunday against the Wisconsin Whalers.
