The Chill wrap up a successful road trip to Alaska

The Coulee Region Chill found themselves 5th in the standings amongst Midwest Division teams at the start last weekend. While they’re still on the outside looking in, things are starting to heat up as teams make a push for the Robertson Cup Playoffs.

After splitting the series with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, the Chill traveled to Kenai River for a series with the Brown Bears. Friday night was all Chill; after the Brown Bears scored late in the 1st period, Coulee Region wasted no time in responding. Justin Kendall (Kevin Dineen, Jackson Decker) and Joey Sofo (Caleb Schroer, Steven Quagliata) both scored in the final 1:06 of the 1st to put the Chill up 2-1 heading into the 2nd frame.

From there it was all Chill as they scored eight more goals over the final two periods. Sofo (Taylor Trapp, Matt Doran) and Trapp (Decker, Schroer) both scored in the 2nd period, Isaac Theisen (Schroer, Ryan Carlson; Dineen, Quagliata) scored two in the 3rd while Kendall (Carlson, Trapp), Bailey Martin (Billy Duma, Cale List), Schroer (Sofo, Trapp), and Dineen (Quagliata, Martin) finished out the scoring for Coulee Region.

Brad Arvanitis picked up the win for the Chill after saving 32-of-33 shots in the contest.

Like the night before, Kenai River jumped on the Chill first on Saturday night, scoring in the 1st period. Sofo (Decker, Doran) tied the game 5:46 into the 2nd period. The Brown Bear were able to tie it soon after but couldn’t hold onto the lead as Quagliata (Dineen, Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup) and Schroer (Marshal Plunkett, Doran) gave Coulee Region a 3-2 lead heading into the 3rd period.

The Chill didn’t stop scoring goals after the 2nd; Theisen (Schroer, Shay Donovan), Martin (Duma) and Kendall (Schroer, Doran) all added to the lead as Coulee Region went on to win by a score of 6-2.

In net again, Arvanitis picked up his 7th win on the season with another solid showing in net saving 37-of-39 shots.

After the weekend sweep of the Brown Bears, the Chill are just one point behind the Springfield Jr. Blues heading into this weekend. With a win over the Minnesota Magicians on Thursday they could be in the driver’s seat as they host the Jr. Blues in a two-game series – at home – Friday and Saturday. The two games will be the first-of-three different weekend series the two divisional opponents will play throughout the last month of the regular season.

Puck drops at 7pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. Friday night’s game is presented by Organic Valley while Saturday night’s game is presented by Courtesy Corporation – McDonald’s.
