The 2017 USHL Phase II draft has come and gone. Three Coulee Region Chill players – as well as three tendered players – were selected in the 25 round draft.
The first Phase of the USHL Draft took place on Monday, May 1st as only players born in the year 2001 were eligible to be drafted. Phase II took place May 2nd and players born between the years of 1997 and 2001 were eligible.
Of those Chill players selected were defensemen Cale List and Jackson Decker as well as forward Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup. The three tenders selected were forwards Niko Esposito and Logan Will as well as defenseman Jackson Millar.
First off the board was List as he was chosen by the Madison Capitols in the sixth round, 90th overall. Shattuck St. Mary’s Prep tender Esposito was selected by the Sioux City Musketeers in the seventh round, 115th overall. First-year Chill defenseman Decker was selected just 13 picks later (128 overall) in the eighth round by the Dubuque Fighting Saints. The Fargo Force chose Schmidt-Svejstrup in round 10 (158 overall). Millar (Rocky Mountain RoughRiders 16U) went 212th overall in the 14th round to the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders while Will (Omaha AAA HC 16U) went 231st overall in the 15th round.
