This past weekend, the Chill played a home & home against the Rochester Grizzlies of the West Division. Friday night, the Chill headed to Rochester to play their first game of the weekend. The Grizzlies had the first tally of the night, just a minute into the first period. The Chill answer back halfway through the period, with a goal from Blake Holmes (8:40; Toon De Schepper, Brandon Ratzloff), tying it up 1-1. Thomas Magnavite (12:50) scores next on a penalty shot to round out the first-period scoring. The Chill head to the locker room with a 2-1 lead. The two teams battled during the second period to keep it 2-1 until the last two minutes of the period, where a goal from Matt Janke (18:07; Flavien Fondadouze, Marcus Tilmon) is followed by back to back goals from the Grizzlies to tie it up 3-3 at the end of the second period. Out on the ice for the third period, the Chill take the lead once again less than a minute into the period with a goal from Brandon Ratzloff (0:57; Blake Holmes, Brady Lindauer). The Chill held on to their 1-goal lead until the last few minutes, where the Grizzlies managed to get one last goal on the board to tie it up 4-4 in regulation play. The two teams headed into OT but in the end, Rochester came out on top and took the 5-4 win over the Chill.
Goalies Devin Naidow and Gunnar Snyder both had some time in the net, Naidow stopping 31 of 36 shots faced and Snyder stopping all 4 shots he faced.
Saturday night, the Chill were back at home to face the Grizzlies once more. The first period was an even battle between the two teams, resulting in a 0-0 game after one period of play. The Grizzlies got on the board first in the second period, followed up by a goal from Thomas Magnavite (10:22; Blake Holmes). The Grizzlies added two more to round out the period and head into the third period with a 3-1 lead over the Chill. Looking for a comeback, Chill captain Brady Lindauer gets on the board (3:43; Thomas Magnavite, Brandon Ratzloff) and cuts the lead to 3-2. Rochester answers back later in the period to take a 4-2 lead. In a last ditch effort, the Chill get one last tally on the board from Thomas Magnavite (18:00; Brandon Ratzloff) but it isn’t enough time and the Chill take the 4-3 loss at home.
Goalie Devin Naidow saved 27 of the 31 shots he faced in the game.
