CHICAGO — With one of the top goalies in the NAHL in Aaron Davis, the Coulee Region Chill aren’t used to being in too many shootouts.
But on Saturday night, that’s exactly what it found itself in, and Davis did just enough for a victory.
Davis had 41 saves for the Chill, which won an 8-7 shootout over the Chicago Hitmen.
The Hitmen blasted plenty of shots at Davis, outshooting the Chill
48-39, but it was Adam Barlow’s goal with 11 minutes, 57 seconds remaining that broke a 7-7 tie and gave the Chill the lead for good.
Jakob Batcha, Myles Maltz, Micah Ranum, Tommy Miller, Ben Jaremko, Pavel Rott, and David Ripple also had goals for Coulee Region (4-2).
The Chill jumped out to a two goal lead in the first period before the game saw six lead changes.
Although defense seemed to be at a minimun, the Chill’s penalty killing unit was in top form, as Chicago was 0-for-5 on powerplay opportunities.
The Chill converted 1 of 3 power plays.
