The Chill returned home this weekend with a two-game series with the Springfield Jr. Blues. Struggling in the first game on Saturday night, the Coulee Region squadron scored only three goals to the Jr. Blues’ nine. The loss dropped the Chill two points farther behind Springfield in the Midwest division. Joey Sofo (Plunkett, Theisen), Caleb Schroer (Stevens, Duma), and Kevin Dineen (Duma, McGlynn) each put in goals for the Chill in the loss.
Sunday’s matinee game saw a much better outcome for the Chill as the tone of the game was set early by some strong physical play by Matt Doran and the team including and a fight between newcomer Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup of Charlottenlund, Denmark and Jr. Blues defenseman Connor Matsinger. A more physical matchup than the previous night saw two goals from Caleb Schroer (Theisen); (Theisen, Carlson) who opened up the scoring for the Chill and then Billy Duma (Stevens) and Andy McGlynn (Schmidt-Svejstrup) adding their own to finish out a four-goal second period. McGlynn netted his second (Carlson) before a final-minute goal from Brandon Puricelli from Springfield brought the final score to 5-2 in favor of the Chill. Brad Arvanitis received the win by stopping 33 of 35 shots.
This push to move up the rankings will continue when the Chill ride North for two games against the Minnesota Wilderness this weekend.
