This past weekend, the Chill were set to play three games total, two games against the Wisconsin Whalers and ending with one game vs. the Wausau RiverWolves.
Friday night, the Chill headed back to Oregon Ice Arena to take on the Whalers and they were hoping for a better outcome than the previous game against them. Early in the first period, the Whalers were first on the board. The Chill used the second half of the period to take over the lead, with a goal from forward Brandon Ratzloff (9:24; Thomas Magnavite) and one from Connor Losen (13:58; Blake Holmes, Matt Janke). The Chill head to the locker room with a 2-1 lead after the first period. The second period begins the Whalers waste no time in tying it up, scoring less than a minute into the period. The Chill answer back with a goal from their newest addition to the team, Matt Janke (3:01; Brandon Ratzloff, Blake Holmes). The back and forth scoring continues midway through the second period, where the Whalers tie it up once again but the Chill take back their lead at the end of the period with another goal from Connor Losen (18:40; Blake Holmes). The second period ends with the Chill holding a 4-3 lead over the Whalers. The goal scoring floodgates opened during the last half of the third period, thankfully on the Chill’s side. Four unanswered goals from defenseman Toon De Schepper (10:21; Brandon Ratzloff, Thomas Magnavite), forward Thomas Magnavite (13:34; Brady Lindauer, Ryan Wolf), defenseman Chase McLaughlin (16:20; Keaton Caplis, Gadel Khismatullin), and another goal from Thomas Magnavite (18:14; Toon De Schepper) which give the Chill a much needed 8-3 win over the Whalers.
Goalie Devin Naidow gets the win, saving 22 out of the 25 total shots on goal.
Saturday night, the Chill were back at home for another game against the Whalers. However, inclement weather forced the team to make the decision to postpone the game for a later date for the safety of all who would be traveling. They plan to make up that game later on in the season.
Sunday night, with the weather subsiding and better road conditions, the Chill were back on the road to play their final game of the weekend against the Wausau RiverWolves. The Chill get on the board first, with a goal from Connor Losen (2:42; Donny Schultz, Blake Holmes). Following up Losen’s goal three minutes later was Brady Lindauer (5:15; Thomas Magnavite, Toon De Schepper). Wausau cuts the Chill’s lead to one midway through the period and they head to the locker rooms after one period of play with the Chill holding a 2-1 lead. The second period was all the Chill. Brady Lindauer (1:56; Brandon Ratzloff) gets his second of the game early in the second period. A few minutes later, Matt Janke (4:38; Connor Losen, Donny Schultz) adds another one to the scoreboard. Brady Lindauer (15:07; Thomas Magnavite, Brandon Ratzloff) completes his hat-trick and Matt Janke (18:41; Donny Schultz) adds his second of the night to round out the second period. The Chill lead 6-1 as they head into the final period of play. Four seemed to be the magic number for the Chill, as they put four more pucks in the back of the net during the third period. Gadel Khismatullin (8:30; Keaton Caplis, Joseph Wiczek), Blake Holmes (11:37; Brady Lindauer, Brandon Ratzloff), Brock Zukowski (11:56; Aslan Akervik, Chris Gilbert), and Brady Lindauer (17:08; Keaton Caplis, Thomas Magnavite) round out the scoring for the Chill in the third period. Wausau gets their second goal of the game off of a penalty shot in the last minute of the game, but the final buzzer will sound with the Chill taking the 10-2 win over the RiverWolves.
Goalie Luke Weberg gets the win in net, saving 18 of the 20 shots faced.
The Chill are back in action this weekend with a home and home match up with the Rochester Grizzlies. The boys are in Rochester on Friday and back at home on Saturday.
