The Coulee Region Chill will play in the new NAHL Midwest Division beginning in 2011-12, the league announced.

The Midwest includes Coulee Region, the Chicago Hitmen, Janesville Jets, Springfield Jr. Blues and St. Louis Bandits.  Coulee Region moved out of the Central, which now is comprised of Aberdeen, Alexandria,  Austin, Bismarck and Minot.

Chill coach Garrett Strot said the re-alignment isn’t as dramatic as it seems for his team. Coulee Region will still play each Central team four or eight times.

“I don’t mind this so much because I like the variety of teams we’re going to see,” Strot said. “We’ll have nine teams come through our arena which will be good for fans and at the same time we’ll still get to play our rivals. We’re basically playing in two divisions.”

The 2011-12 NAHL season opens Sept. 14 at the Showcase Tournament in Blaine, Minn. The regular-season schedule will be announced later this summer.
