The Coulee Region Chill split their series against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs this past weekend.
Friday nights game was an overtime thriller that resulted in a 5-4 win for the Chill. The game was dominated offensively by Dom Florian (two goals, two assists) and Michael Wilson (one goal, two assists). Wilsons’ lone goal – and only shot throughout the game – came in overtime to win. Other goals scored by the Chill were Isaac Theisen in the first and Aussie Miller in the second. Both Hunter Vorva (34/36 saves) and Matiss Kivlenieks (16/18 saves) were in net throughout the night with Kivlenieks picking up the win.
Saturday nights game was much like the night before. The Ice Dogs scored first off of a power-play goal via Logan Coomes but Justin Kendall answered back with a power-play goal of his own. The Chill took the lead midway through the second after Theisen – second on the weekend – while shorthanded. Jakob Stridsberg of Fairbanks scored to tie the game up at two but Coomes scored his second of the night for Fairbanks with 1:02 left and it proved to be the game winner as the Chill fell by a score of 2-3. Kivlenieks was in net once again, saving 39/42 shots on the night. Gavin Nieto got the win for Fairbanks, saving 26/28 shots.
The Chill are back in action throughout the next week. The following games will be played at the Green Island Ice Arena in La Crosse, WI:
- Wednesday, November 25th vs. Austin Bruins at 7pm
- Friday, November 27th vs. Minnesota Magicians at 7pm
- Sunday, November 29th vs. Minnesota Magicians at 5pm
