Chill Comeback to Win Semifinal Series

After a tough loss on the road in Peoria, IL in Game 1 of the Central Division Semifinals, the Chill were looking to make a big change on home ice and stretch the series to 3 games.

On Saturday, the two teams would remain tied 0-0 for the first two periods of play. At the 6:33 mark of the third period, the Mustangs would finally be the first to get on the board and take the 1-0 lead. 3 minutes later, Keaton Caplis comes to the rescue and ties it up 1-1 at the midway point in the third period with helpers from Brady Lindauer and Brandon Ratzloff. Then at the 11:31 mark of the third, Thomas Magnavite would score to give the Chill the 2-1 lead with help from Brandon Ratzloff and Brady Lindauer. The Mustangs didn’t give up, making it tough for the Chill but the boys were able to hold onto their lead and get the much needed win to extend the series to game 3 on Sunday. Goalie Devin Naidow gets the win in net, stopping 18 out of 19 shots faced.

On Sunday, the Chill still had home ice advantage over the Mustangs and were looking for the win to seal their spot into the Central Division Finals. The Mustangs were the first to get on the board early in the first period to make it 1-0. That would remain the score going into the first intermission. The Chill knew they had to come back the next period and outplay the Mustangs. They did just that, just 8 minutes into the second period the Chill would tie it up 1-1 with a goal from Sam Dabrowski, assists from Brady Lindauer and Brandon Ratzloff. Two minutes later, Thomas Magnavite becomes the hero for the Chill and gives them a 2-1 lead with an assist from Keaton Caplis. Heading into the second intermission, the Chill would hold their lead and hope to be able to fend off the Mustangs for the final 20 minutes. The third period was starting to get rough, as both teams tempers flared in their hopes of making it to the next round. In the final minute of play, the Mustangs would pull their goaltender for the extra attacker, but the Chill would take advantage of the empty net once they got control of the puck and Thomas Magnavite would seal the deal to make it 3-1 with a great pass from Connor Losen in the final 30 seconds of the game. Goalie Devin Naidow would get the win in net, stopping 31 of 32 total shots faced during the game.

A tough fought series by both teams, but the Chill would come out victorious! Next up, the Chill will be taking on the St. Louis Jr. Blues in the Central Division Finals this coming weekend. All games will be played at Green Island Ice Arena, starting with Game 1 on Friday, March 22nd at 7 PM.
