Big Win Over Milwaukee, Close Call Against Wausau

This past weekend, the Chill played a home and home set.  Friday they headed to play the Milwaukee Power and Saturday at home vs. the Wausau RiverWolves.

On Friday the Chill were taking on the Power, who are currently sitting in 3rd place in the Central Division. The Chill get on the board first with a goal from Brock Zukowski at the 6 minute mark of the first period, getting an assist from Christopher Drews, to give the Chill the 1-0 lead. Near the end of the period, Milwaukee is able to tie it up 1-1 on a power play. Starting out the second period tied 1-1, the Power are able to take the 2-1 lead midway through the period. Rounding out the second period, Marco Escobar is able to tie it  2-2 with just two minutes left. Assists go to Aslan Akervik and Chase McLaughlin. The first two periods were fairly even, however the third period was all Chill. Just 20 seconds into the third, Toon De Schepper gives the Chill the 3-2 lead with an assist from Brandon Ratzloff. The scoring floodgates officially opened for the Chill after the quick start, getting a goal from Brandon Ratzloff a few minutes later (3:50; Thomas Magnavite, Brady Lindauer). Two minutes later, the Chill make it 5-2 with a goal from Matt Janke (6:03; Connor Losen) and then quickly followed by a goal from Marcus Tilmon (6:31; Christopher Drews, Gijs De Schepper) to make it 6-2. Milwaukee adds another on the board at 8:24 in the third to make it 6-3, but the Chill decided they weren’t done scoring goals yet. At 8:50 of the third, Matt Janke gets his second goal of the game with assists from Marco Escobar and Aslan Akervik. Brady Lindauer gets the last puck past the Milwaukee goalie at 15:50 of the final period, assists from Brandon Ratzloff and Chase McLaughlin. Final score gives the Chill a 8-3 win over the Milwaukee Power and two more points to further their lead in the Central Division standings. Goalie Michael Janke gets the win in net, stopping 18 of the 21 total shots faced.

The next night, the Chill were at home taking on the Wausau RiverWolves. The Chill got the only goal in the first period of play, from Aslan Akervik at 5:29 of the first with assists from Matt Janke and Marco Escobar. The Chill would keep their 1-0 lead heading into the second period. At 6:42 of the second period, Aslan Akervik gets his second goal of the game to make it 2-0. Assists go to Matt Janke and Toon De Schepper. Wausau would make it 2-1 midway through the second period and that’s where the teams would sit after two periods of play. Early in the third period, Wausau ties it up 2-2 and then takes the lead 3-2 at the 15:36 mark. The RiverWolves goalie was having an incredible game, standing on his head to keep his team in the lead. The Chill were fighting to take the lead back, but time was ticking down quickly. However, just over a minute left in the period, Thomas Magnavite ties it up 3-3 with assists from Connor Losen and Brady Lindauer. Then the Hockey Gods were sure on the Chill’s side, as Brady Lindauer gets the GWG with just 30 seconds left in the game with help from Thomas Magnavite and Brandon Ratzloff. The Chill get the nail bitter win at home with the score of 4-3. Goalie Gunnar Snyder gets the win in net, stopping 19 of 22 shots faced.

The Chill are sitting in first place in the Central Division standings, now 5 points ahead of the St. Louis Jr. Blues, as they head into a one game weekend at home against Milwaukee on Saturday. Only 2 regular season games remain for the Chill before the playoffs begin.
