New Years Eve Saturday night was a chance for the Coulee Region Chill to take the second game of a home and home weekend series against the Austin Bruins. Last year the Chill dominated the Bruins in the season series 9 games to 3. The Chill played strong on Friday night nearly doubling the Bruins shots 40-21, but lost on the scoreboard 4-3. Tyler Klein, Jimmy Hughes & Tommy Miller found their chemistry as they were together on all 3 goals, but Austin goaltender Tyler Bruggeman was able to hang on to the game in the end. Saturday night things started rough for the CR Chill as they gave up the first 2 goals again and it was Austin Nelson continuing with his hot hand scoring goals in both the 1st and 2nd periods for 4 goals in the weekend series againt the Chill. The Chill cut the Bruins lead to 2-1 in the 2nd when Eric Drapluk tipped the puck to a streaking Myles Maltz who proceeded to go on a 2 on 1 with Cory Lushanko a fed it perfectly to Cory for the one timer past Bruggeman. Chill were down 4-1 in the 3rd when they got a strong shift from Cory again, when he fed Mac Jansen who came in hard on left wing sending a perfect dish to Tyler Klein in front for the goal, making it 4-2. The Bruins added a late empty net goal for a 5-2 win and the weekend sweep.
The Chill host the Aberdeen Wings this Friday and Saturday night at the Onalska Omni Center. Work will start this week on the new Empire Development Beaver Builders Supply Media Box and a brief ceremony will be conducted before the game in honor of this new addition to the rink. Beaver Builders Supply has donated the lumber for the project and Empire Development & Construction the labor. The box will be reinforced by steel and that has been donated by Chill play by play voice Rik Franke in memory of his father Eric Franke, who passed away recently.
