Chill split series with Magicians, return home to host Bruins before road series with Jr. Blues

The Coulee Region Chill defeated the Minnesota Magicians Friday night at Green Island Ice Arena by the final score of 4-1.  It was a big win for the Chill, who moved ahead in the season series 3-2 against their Minnesota and Midwest Division rivals.  The Magicians started the scoring with the only goal in the first before Coulee Region responded with a pair of goals in the second and third periods each.  The Chill did an excellent job of moving the puck, as four different players scored in the victory including Joey Sofo, Steven Quagliata, Matt Doran, and Jackson Decker.  Braxton Collins, Bailey Martin, Kevin Dineen (2), Larry Jungwirth (2), and Caleb Schroer all picked up the assists on the night.  In net was Todd Scott saving 23/24 shots on the night as he picked up his fifth win on the season.

Saturday’s road trip to Richfield was one to forget for the Chill, as they fell 5-1 to the Magicians.  Jungwirth (Dineen, Matt Hines) put the Chill up 1-0 early in the second period, but it was all Minnesota after that as the Magicians went on to score five unanswered goals.  Magicians forward Mitchel Slattery led the way scoring twice for his 9th and 10th goals of the season.  The loss drops the Chill six points behind the Magicians in the Midwest Division; however, the Chill have five games in hand on the Magicians.

The Chill will return home to Green Island Ice Arena this Thursday as they take on the Austin Bruins.  Thursday will mark the third time the two clubs have faced each other this year, with the road team coming away victorious each time.  The Chill will hope to have a large crowd on hand as it will be College Night at the game.  Students who bring their I.D.’s will receive free admission.  Puck drop is slated for 7 pm.  The night is presented by The Great Escape of La Crosse.

After Thursday’s home contest, the Chill will take the road to face the Springfield Jr. Blues for a pair of games Friday and Saturday at the Nelson Center in Springfield, IL.  The Chill have taken the two previous meetings – both on the road – this season by scores of 5-3 and 2-1.  Gametime for Friday’s contest is scheduled for 7:05 pm.  Puck drop for Saturday’s game is slated for 6:05 pm.
