The Coulee Region Chill had a 3 game home stand against the Peoria Mustangs this weekend. The Chill had previously won their first game of the season against Peoria 6-1 on September 23rd. On Friday, the Chill had their first game of the weekend against the Mustangs at home and they carried their energy over from the previous weekend.
Right out of the gate, the Chill get on the board first just 19 seconds into the first period with a goal by Brandon Ratzloff (Flavien Fondadouze, Donny Schultz). The Chill then make it 2-0 early in the first period with a goal from Thomas Magnavite (4:42; Flavien Fondadouze, Keaton Caplis). Peoria cuts the Chill’s lead by one with a goal by their top scorer, making it 2-1. Heading into the locker room after the first period of play, the Chill kept their 2-1 lead. The Mustangs took charge early in the second period, tying it up 2-2. It wasn’t until the end of the period that the Chill were able to capitalize and get back their lead with a goal from Aslan Akervik (16:32; Thomas Magnavite, Connor Losen). After two periods of play, the Chill had the 3-2 lead going into the third. It was a battle in the final period of play but the Mustangs were able to tie it up with five minutes left in the game, ending regulation play in a 3-3 tie. Chill fans then got a little free hockey, as the two teams then headed into a five-minute overtime. However, that wasn’t enough time for either team and then we were on to a shootout. In the fourth round of the shootout, the Mustangs take the win and each team takes a point for the night.
Goalie Gunnar Snyder makes 25 of 28 shots during regulation and saved 3 of 4 shootout attempts.
Saturday night, the Chill were back for game two at home against Peoria and just like Friday the Chill were the ones to get on the board first. Brady Lindauer scores the first goal halfway through the first period (10:26; Blake Holmes). During the second period, Peoria ties it up 1-1 and then the penalties start becoming more frequent for both teams are they are locked up in a tie for the rest of the period. The Chill’s special teams’ take over during the third period after the penalty minutes kept climbing. Brandon Ratzloff breaks the tie (7:51; Laudon Poellinger, Brady Lindauer) and Laudon Poellinger secures the win (12:36; Brandon Ratzloff, Toon De Schepper).
Goalie Devin Naidow gets the win in net, stopping 25 of 26 total shots on goal.
Sunday afternoon was the final showdown of the weekend for the Chill and the Mustangs, and there was no cooling down the Chill for this game either. Donny Schultz gets the Chill on the board early in the first period (6:29; Thomas Magnavite). The score remains 1-0 until the final minutes of the second period when the Chill score their second of the game with a power-play goal by Laudon Poellinger (18:58; Blake Holmes, Toon De Schepper). The third period remains all Chill scoring, getting a goal from Brady Lindauer (13:09; Toon De Schepper, Blake Holmes) and the final goal from Thomas Magnavite (14:29; Connor Losen, Flavian Fondadouze). Final score of 4-0 gives the Chill their second win of the weekend and a total of 5 out of 6 possible points.
