OWATONNA, Minn. — The Owatonna Express gained two crucial points in the NAHL Central Division race Friday by holding off the Coulee Region Chill 4-3.

Owatonna (30-17-6) has 66 points, three ahead of the second-place Chill (29-16-5) as the regular season heads into the final month of play. However, the Express have played three more games than the Chill.

The Express, who have won seven of eight games against Coulee Region this season, took a 4-0 lead midway through the second period. The Chill started its comeback with a goal by defenseman Tate Rusk at 19:00 of the second.

Berkley Scott’s power play goal at 1:14 of the third made it 4-2. Coulee Region coach Garrett Strot pulled goaltender Aaron Davis (49 saves) for an extra skater with 1:43 remaining, and Jakob Batcha scored 22 seconds later, but the comeback fell short.

Owatonna outshot the Chill 53-26.

The teams play tonight in Owatonna.
