Chill Sweep Jets and Bring Home the Milk Can Trophy

The Coulee Region Chill have been playing tight in games with the Central Division's top teams, Austin & Brookings, but this past weekend they went to Janeville to avenge a 3-2 O.T. loss back on Oct 20th, which incidently was the last win the Janesville Jets had posted. Hunter Anderson got the Chill on the board first on a pretty helper from Andy Faust to make it 1-0. Jordan Himley then scored his 3rd goal against the Chill this season to tie the game at one. Then it was a nice rush from Eddie Matsushima and Travis Underwood to give the Chill a 2-1 lead which was answered again by Jordan Himley with a short handed goal at the beginning of the 3rd period. Then in the 3rd, just as the powerplay expired it was a dish from Aleksi Mustaniemi to Sean Lang at the point that trickled through the legs of Austin Priebe for what would be the GWG. Hunter Anderson added an empty netter late in the game for his 2nd of the night and his 8th of the season. Blake Cates made 35 saves on 37 shots for his 2nd win of the season. This was a very physical game that the frustrated Jets tried to get the Chill to drop the gloves, which definitely extended into the re-match on Saturday night.

It would take just 2 seconds for the carry over of Friday night's physical game to start out with an overhand right by Janesville Captain Connor Lemirande as the puck dropped at the center circle with Chill Forward Matt Williams. Just as the puck was dropped, there was another fight as Chill newcomer Cam Bleck got a hold of David Becker, taking him down with a stellar wrestling move and then getting the top spot in the brawl. The officiating crew determined that Bleck & Becker would be given game misconducts, while Williams would get a fighting penalty and it would appear that Lemirande who was sent off the ice would get a game ejection, but then reappeared minutes later after the crew talked with Coach's Hamre and Dibble. Minutes later the crew ejected Aleksi Mustaniemi for checking from behind and then late in the 1st period the Chill lost their 3rd player of the game when they ejected Max Zebro after a boarding call. Jets Defensemen Donovan Gardner would be the 5th player to leave the game after he jumped Zebro following the hit.

Through all this goonery and chirp fest the CRC were clicking offensively as Derek Smith scored his 2nd of the season from Cory Lushanko & Mac Jansen. Then it was Mac getting his first goal in the last 10 games and his 10th of the season on a great set up by Cory Lushanko & Adam Lovick. The Chill then added 4 more goals in the 2nd period when Lovick scored his first goal in the NAHL, from Anderson & Matsushima. Matt Williams then answered Connor Lemirande's overhand right with his 3rd goal of the season on another assist from Hunter and Travis. Mac then scored his 11th of the season on assists from Hendrickson & Lushanko and then finally a powerplay goal from Andy Faust, assisted by Matsushima & Anderson.

Blake Cates was on his way to his first shut out in the NAHL, but with 41 seconds left in the game, Janesville newcomer Chase Rey scored for the Jets to make it 6-1. Four points on the weekend for the Chill launched them into 4th place and one point above Minot which is the next road trip as the two teams meet for the first time on Friday & Saturday. Coverage of both games on Fasthockey and the feed will be simulcast on CRSN with Minot play by play voice Ken Oda.
