Chill win 6-1 Friday night.
The Coulee Region Chill opened up a four-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 6-1 over the Aberdeen Wings.
Coulee Region was led by goalie Blake Cates, who finished with 36 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Cates will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.77.
The Chill got the win thanks to a great game by Matt Williams, who had two goals and one assist. Williams scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Coulee Region. Coulee Region had taken the advantage when Aberdeen's Justin Parizek got sent off for elbowing. Aleksi Mustaniemi assisted on the tally. Williams' next tally on the power play made the score 4-0 Coulee Region with 3:55 left in the first period. Cory Lushanko provided the assist.
The Chill's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Aberdeen power plays. Coulee Region surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Chill have scored at the pace of 2.7 goals per game during the current campaign. Coulee Region's offense was clicking better than usual and put 37 shots on goal during the game, better than the 25.0 shots per game it averages.
Coulee Region also got points from Jesse Tredinnick, who also had one goal and one assist, Mac Jansen, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Hunter Anderson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Garrett Hendrickson also scored for Coulee Region. Other players who recorded assists for Coulee Region were Andy Faust, who had three and Derek OFlynn and Derek Smith, who contributed one a piece.
The Wings' defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 16 shots between them. Aberdeen forced the Chill goalie Cates to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.
Coulee Region totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. The Wings' starting goalie, Marcus Zelzer, made nine saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Paige Skoog, who stopped 22 shots. Aberdeen ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.

A stellar performance between the pipes by Blake Cates helped the Coulee Region Chill defeat the Aberdeen Wings, 3-1.
Coulee Region was led by Andy Faust, who finished with one goal. Faust scored 9:33 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Coulee Region. Sean Madigan provided the assist.
With 32 shots on target during the contest, the Chill exceeded the 25.3 shots they average per game this year.
Coulee Region also got points from Mac Jansen, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Cory Lushanko also scored for Coulee Region. More assists for Coulee Region came via Derek Smith, Hunter Anderson, and Garrett Hendrickson, who contributed one a piece.
Aberdeen kept Coulee Region's goalie busy throughout the game, and Cates made 41 saves on 42 shots.
The Wings were led by Joseph Sullivan, who scored the team's only goal. Sullivan scored 3:01 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Peter Krieger assisted on the tally.
The Chill incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Paige Skoog made 29 saves for Aberdeen on 31 shots. The Wings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
The Chill face the Minot Minotauros this Thursday night at the Onalaska Omni Center. Minot is 8-1-1 in their last 10 games and is one of the hottest teams in the NAHL. 7:00 p.m. start.
