The Coulee Region Chill faced the Springfield Jr. Blues on both Friday and Saturday night. Both games ended victorious for the Chill putting Coulee Region at a 5-3 on the season.
The first two periods were back and forth. Springfield scored first in both periods but Caleb Schroer (Billy Duma, Marshall Punkett) tied it in the first and Taylor Trapp (Marshall Plunkett, Kevin Dineen) each kept the Chill in contention.
Coulee Region got their first taste of the lead just over five minutes into the third period when Steven Quagliata (Isaac Theisen, Schroer) scored his first goal of the year. Alex Falconer (Joey Sofo, Quagliata) made it 5-3 before the Jr. Blues put the Chill on their heels with 1:05 remaining. Springfield pulled goalie Evan Fear and Braxton Collins (Falconer) made them pay with an empty net goal.
Joe Marcoullier defended the net Friday night saving 18/21 shots en route to his second victory of the season.
Saturday night it was a different story but the same result as the Chill went on to win 2-1 and sweep the Jr. Blues on the weekend. Marshall Plunkett (Larry Jungwirth, Dineen) gave the Chill the lead in the 1st and Taylor Trapp (Schroer, Dineen) scored the game winner in the 2nd.
Marcoullier had the night off so rookie Artur Pavliukov got the start in net. The Klaipeda, Lithuania native was impressive as he saved 27/28 shots over the course of the night as he moved to 2-1 on the season.
Looking forward to the weekend the Chill have a tough schedule as they face the top two teams in the Midwest Division, the Minnesota Magicians and the Janesville Jets. Friday night they’ll travel to take on the Magicians at the Richfield Ice Arena, a 7:15pm puck drop. Saturday night will be the tilt against the Jets at the Janesville Ice Arena, a 7pm puck drop.
